About I Am Poetry

Everkesia Taylor is a poet, author, and creative entrepreneur based in Tampa, Florida. She is the founder of I Am Poetry, an apparel and entertainment brand that blends poetry, community, and culture into powerful experiences.

A graduate of Saint Leo University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing, Everkesia merges artistic expression with strategic vision. She began writing poetry at a young age and deepened her love for the craft while attending Blake High School for Creative Writing, drawing inspiration from literary voices such as Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni. What started as a personal outlet became a calling.

Everkesia created I Am Poetry because she was searching for spaces where creatives could be seen, heard, and valued. When she couldn’t find enough of those spaces, she built one. Through monthly open mic shows, festivals, and curated experiences in the Tampa Bay area, she has cultivated a community-centered platform where artists can share their truth and audiences can find healing, connection, and belonging.

In addition to hosting events, Everkesia is the author of six poetry books and the visionary behind the I Am Poetry apparel line — a brand rooted in affirmation and identity. To her, “I Am Poetry” is more than a phrase; it is a declaration. It represents the belief that our lives, stories, struggles, and triumphs are all forms of art.

Her mission is to inspire individuals to embrace poetry not just as words on a page, but as a way of life.
